I came to bring up some points that have been surfacing from the forums recently, and even from Reddit and other websites. Before you go and start getting ideas, I do not affiliate myself with any groups, especially not the people down at \r\BlocklandIsHorrible. If you're wondering why this is in drama, it's because of the replies I expect people to make.
From what I've seen, people have been bitching over and over again at the fact there haven't been very many updates, and in most cases, I would understand that. Hell, even I could go for some more updates to Blockland. The truth is, asking for a big update is looking very unrealistic at this point.
So you're part of the camp of people who are angry about a lack of development, but you want to make it clear that you're not
affiliated with the group of people who run the sub-reddit for complaining about a lack of development on Blockland? Why even bother pusillanimous individualfooting around the fact that you're not a part of
their group if you're just going to reiterate exactly what they're saying?
Let's be honest. It'd take Badspot months to modify the engine to, say, make server-sided fake-killed bricks. It'd take Badspot even longer to make it so you can walk on those bricks. Going off of the postulate that for every bug fixed, another bug will take its place, it's impossible to 100% fix a game. Even if it was possible, it'd take years to do, which is time Badspot does not have. So he provides a bug fix here and there. He could give one of you ownership of the game right now, and I guarantee you'd get bored of having to fix all of the bugs and give ownership to someone else within the same month. Don't lie to yourself.
Stating the obvious.
Now to bring up another point. Going off of what I said, look at Badspot's age. It says he's in his 30's. Whether he keeps that updated, I have no idea. What man in his 30's would want to have to put up with the stuff coming from game he made when he was around 21 years of age? I know I wouldn't. So that's about 10 years of his entire life that he spent keeping this game alive. And you all wonder why he has so little patience with you all. He's been dealing with twelve year old boys who can't help but say "forget you" every other sentence, and the eighteen year old males hitting on those twelve year old's. If I had to put up with the same stuff, I'd go insane by the time I turned twenty.
You don't even need to rationalize the recent bans with Badspot's age. Those who were banned have been banned before for similar bullstuff. They're problem users, and the only people who care about them being missing are the other problem users who are hanging out at the sub-reddit.
Now, look at the Add-Ons board. It's been months since any huge Add-Ons, like Slayer, or VCE, or Modular Terrain bricks, or even ZAPT, were made.
I guarantee that this statistic comes straight from your ass. You've clearly just looked through a few pages of the addons board (or didn't at all) and made the hasty generalization that the community has collectively accomplished nothing in the last few months. I can show that you're full of stuff using nothing but basic arithmetic, and yes, that rhymes.
There's 20 threads per page of the addons board. If we just assume that each thread has one new mod in it (most have several, but this gives us a handy lower bound for our estimation), then we can go back a certain number of pages until the last post is a few months old.
If you go back three months ago to June 7, you're at page 10 of the addons board and 4 threads down. There's 9 whole pages with addons on them, which is
180 addons posted in just the last three months(at least). We can discount the 4 threads on the 10th page since there's also 4 non-addon threads on the first page that detail the rules of the addons section and other information.
Now let's make a contrasting sample for our data. You mention that we're past some kind of golden age of Blockland mods, and that 'everything was better when VCE and slayer were coming out!' (even though these mods are literally like 6 years apart from eachother in release date). Let's test this hypothesis.
Destiny released the VCE V.4 events mod on December 25, 2008. If we want to make a 3-month sample of how many addons were being made around this time, we can start a month and a half before VCE and a month and a half afterwards. So the question is, how many threads were made between ~February 10th, 2009 and ~November 10th, 2008? The number of threads between those dates (pages 137-126) is about 200. Which, adjusting for volatility in how many people are playing Blockland or making mods, is essentially
the same.
Another thing I would like to point out is the lack of any interesting news. Especially of anything good. Granted, many of our jaws dropped when Badspot started "the purge", but even that is not as big of a deal as people made it. Badspot bans people more often than you think. Then there's all the negative events happening. "Computermix is at it again." "Ephialtes left and took RTB with him." "/r/BlocklandIsHorrible has a secret plan." Can you honestly go on and tell me that these are that exciting?
So let me get this straight, you are 'disgusted by what you see' on the forums, and you want to make it clear that the only reason this thread is in drama is because you think you'll get vitriolic responses, but you're complaining about a lack of drama and conflict on the forums? You're literally flip-flopping between two opposite arguments. Do you like the drama and conflicts on the forums? Or do you dislike them? Figure it out before posting a thread.
I'd like to remind you all that this game has been kept alive by Badspot for 10 years. You all go on to bitch about how the game needs more updates and how it deserves more from its owner. Badspot is been dealing with this stuff for 10 years, and you all can't even give him a week-long break without finding something to bitch at him about.
Now, look at the Add-Ons board. It's been months since any huge Add-Ons, like Slayer, or VCE, or Modular Terrain bricks, or even ZAPT, were made. All of these changed the game in a positive way, and they were great. I see Slayer getting updated constantly, and that makes me happy to know. However, even updates to Slayer are old news now. Not many Add-Ons are even that exciting to play around with anymore. Half of the fun of Blockland was when there were cool Add-Ons that nobody had seen before, where people would host servers showcasing them, and that server would reach 20 players. Then another server would host, say, parkour mod, and it would reach 20 players. Looking at the way things have been going recently, I haven't seen a single Add-On that could excite me enough to even download it.
Once again, here you are making staunch arguments for
both sides. You complain about how people are hounding Badspot for stagnant development
directly after you hound him for stagnant development. I am now entirely convinced that the whole reason you posted this thread is because you decided today, "I'm going to make a thread about some controversy going on lately, and I'll take both sides so I can act like the moral authority and tell everyone to grow up".
I will now end with a relevant xkcd comic.
