5x - 3(x - 6) = 2
Solve for X.

Be sure to show your work, or else you get no credit!

what loving grade are you in lol this is 6th grade stuff

OP is in 8th grade Algebra, forget me for not having been taught this, right?

it's a forgetin' shame

they give you the work in schools but don't teach you jack stuff

I haven't taken Algebra yet sooo  :cookieMonster:

5x - 3(x - 6) = 2
5x - 3x - 18 = 2
2x - 18 = 2
2x = 2 + 18
2x = 20
x = 10

is that even right or did i manage to forget up
like i haven't done math this simple in a long time

yes, actually
because that is pathetically easy, especially for 8th grade
arizona, with one of the worst education systems in the country, teaches this in 6th
have you never learned distributive property or something

I suppose instead of being a richard I should explain what Rally did. First he distributed the 3 to get rid of those parenthesis. Then, he combined the two x terms. He moved the constant to the other side of the equation to isolate the x, and then he divided so that the only thing on the left side is an x.

it's cool how mostly everyone's just insulting op for not knowing something rather than teaching it to him so he doesn't have to ask stuff questions like this

also i don't know either because forget me

5x - 3(x - 6) = 2
5x - 3x - 18 = 2
2x - 18 = 2
2x = 2 + 18
2x = 20
x = 10

is that even right or did i manage to forget up

you didn't get the negative for the 6, so:

5x - 3x + 18 = 2
2x + 18 = 2
2x = 2 - 18
2x = -16
x = -8

and then you check your answer because that's what you do

5(-8) - 3(-8 - 6) = 2
-40 - 3(-14) = 2
-40 + 42 = 2

boom.

can't do this crap over ASCII, need to see it on paper

thanks, makes more sense though. that's what i got on the graph

lame

hit us with another i'll do it in loving record time
and add some other stuff too, do a quadratic
linear equations are for pussies

chill

5x - 3(x - 6) = 2
5x - 3x - 18 = 2
2x - 18 = 2
2x = 2 + 18
2x = 20

Apparently that is wrong. The book shows that and says fix theverything work.

I know the distributive property, starfish.  I just wasn't taught what's wrong with the problem.

tfw you've been in 4 different calculus classes

Yeah sorry that was a bit out of line. Chex posted the right answer, though.
