I've always thought that the Biblical renditions of the Ziz, Behemoth, and Leviathan are amateur account views of creatures that have supposedly been extinct for "millions" of years. No way of knowing for sure but sounds feasible to me.

Same goes for dragons. I think it is more than coincidence that several different cultures supposedly "invented" the dragon, yet all or most of them are very similar in appearance.
