Author Topic: Some states have passed laws preventing Tesla from selling cars in stores  (Read 2462 times)

So yah. Basically, there are certain states that have passed laws making it illegal for Tesla to sell cars there, except online. They say that in order to sell cars through stores, Tesla has to sell through "franchised dealers." These laws are being pushed by big car companies like GM, without them explicitly mentioning Tesla.

Tesla has been selling cars extremely well lately, and it's starting to hurt and put pressure on car companies, hence why they're doing this.

There's some good discussion on the topic (as well as a chart that shows were Tesla can and cannot sell through stores) here: vvvvv

So yah, you can still buy a car online, but you can't buy it at a store in certain states. Anyone else think it's ridiculous that this is happening, and that big car companies have the power to do this?

Big companies have always been able to do this.

yes let's ban the good business

Big companies have always been able to do this.
Doesn't change that they probably shouldn't be able to influence the government that much...

Tesla then therefore just have to make franchised dealers with the franchise owners being high-end Tesla workers.

Well, I'd imagine this is something they'd like to do eventually, but they aren't ready to do that just yet.

They wot

EDIT:

They make amazing electric cars, which are so high quality that their threatening gas cars. For reference: http://theoatmeal.com/comics/tesla_model_s

Uh... most of these laws weren't passed because of Tesla. They were already in place. It's what happens when you let an industry pay lawmakers to make laws that benefit them. In this day in age, dealers are obsolete and should go the way of many other companies that just can't compete in the digital age.

yes business controls our government.

i dont see why anyone is shocked or confused by this.

I now want a Tesla when I grow up.

i hope tesla pulls through cus man those rides are sick
