That is technically a rocket that glides, Planes use Piston or Jet engines. Rockets use solid or liquid fuel to ignite and push the vehicle forward. so you're wrong. It's still holds the record.

" Since 1976, it has held the world record for the fastest air-breathing manned aircraft, a record previously held by the YF-12. "

to people who keep saying the SR-71 isn't a combat aircraft.
war·plane  (wôrpln)
n.
 A combat aircraft

warplane (ˈwɔːˌpleɪn)
n
1.  (Military) any aircraft designed for and used in warfare.

The U2 And SR-71 are used for reconnaissance In military applications defining them as a Combat aircraft or Warplane

They don;t have a gunb thouhg

You should've used:
fastest air-breathing manned aircraft
instead.

Is way too vague, which is why the space shuttle holds that title with a max reentry speed of 27,870 km/h.

well, the title said combat aircraft thread, so he was probably meaning an aircraft used in combat

They don;t have a gunb thouhg
neither does the stealth bomber and it has military purposes

You could've used Columbia as a bomb.
