Personally I think more defined units might be the way to go when determined battle outcomes in the theater overall. Also maybe some sort of combined arms mechanic too for helping decide theater combat as well.

The SR-71 was intercepted a few times by Mig-31s. It forced the US to make fewer flights over Soviet airspace.
