1% equals 1/93 True or False?

Author Topic: 1% equals 1/93 True or False?  (Read 2791 times)

Ok so I'm having a debate with my brother.

Is 1% the same thing as 1 over 93?
As I recall 1% is 1 over 100, simplifying the problem
to 1/100 equal to 1/93. True or false?

The only way I see that being right is if you rounded it,
which he automatically did when he knows that that's
not what I meant. (he keeps switching our words around
saying that I agreed to rounding)

Bottom line, the question was:
1% equal to 1/93. True it false?

(btw I'm pretty sure that he would agree with me,
he just doesn't want to lose $20)

is your brother seriously inferring that 1/100 = 1/93
because if so you need to smack the stuff out of him, that's like saying 1 = 0.93, it just isn't the same

You wouldn't say 93/100 is equal to 1, right?

.93% is the same as 1/93
1% is the same as 1/100
1% is not the same as 1/93

you could put that in a calculator to check it even

is your brother seriously inferring that 1/100 = 1/93
because if so you need to smack the stuff out of him, that's like saying 1 = 0.93, it just isn't the same
EXACTLY. I'm pretty sure that he knows
I'm right. He told me that I never said no rounding,
but I'm pretty sure that doesn't mean that you're
automatically supposed to do so

.93% is the same as 1/93
1/93 * 100 = 1.0753%

you're thinking of 93/100

1% is not the same as 1/93
I KNOW. He kept telling me that equaled
to 1%.

He told me that I never said no rounding
But you did. = means no rounding.

I never said round or don't round.
If someone asked me if 1 divided by 93 equals
1, I would automatically say no. I wouldn't assume
that you would have to round, unless they said so.

1/93 * 100 = 1.0753%

you're thinking of 93/100

Dammit, i knew i got something wrong.

It doesn't matter if you explicitly stated rounding or no rounding. Equals does not account for rounding. 1/100 =/= 1/93. However, 1/100 ~= 1/93. The ~= stands for "about equals" and accounts for rounding.

lol why 93 though
like what lead him to think that

But you did. = means no rounding.
Lol I'm getting mixed up so badly right now.
I basically meant that he can't round because I never
asked him to. I just asked him a straight up
question, and he automatically assumed that he
should round
