Author Topic: which came first, the name of the color orange or the fruit named orange?  (Read 2234 times)

The color was named after the fruit, and the fruit was named after the tree.

nararnj (Arabic word for the tree itself.) ->
pomme d'orenge (Literally "apple orange" from the Old French term for the fruit of the orange tree.) ->
orenge (Truncated version to refer to the fruit.) ->
orange (Modern spelling.) ->
Orange color.

The color was called saffron before people began using "orange."
