Author Topic: Is it safe to say god doesn't exist now?  (Read 7262 times)

Idk about any other Christians who walk these forums, but I'm a Christian because it makes sense. I am an extremely science-minded person and I need backups of proof before I have a sound basis on it. From how I understand the world and scientific findings, there is a God and that God is the one from the Bible.

But I'm not here to argue with anyone. I'm just stating it as a contribution.

Thank you for making a civilized contribution, we don't want any arguements, I'm just curious as to what others think.

i believe in god it's just that creationism didn't happen and everything was through evolution

there is a god tho

If god is real why doesn't he just tell us lol

Now I don't want to start any arguments this is purely my OPINION and is solely based upon my UNDERSTANDING.

From what I've learned on Evolution, the Big Bang and the contradictions that take place in the Bible and other religious texts I have concluded, that based on the available evidence, that there is no god. BUT if someone were to provide me with proof stating the contrary I would change my point of view. I've read books that refute theological arguments and books that refute atheistic arguments, but for right now, in this moment, I find that there is most likely no god or gods.

If god is real why doesn't he just tell us lol

because he's trying to 'test us to see if we are worthy of heaven' or something like that

Religion is already on the way out.
More and more people are becoming atheist everyday.
and younger people are also converting

I loving hate the ignorant Christians. Im normally ok with religion but when they can't accept any other theory thats when I get triggered. There is this girl at my bus stop who started telling everyone "evolution and the big bang theory are absolute crap".

why can't inb4's ever be spaced out :(
Well people like us know that, but why do a lot of people still think God exists when we have science?

Well I should hope so, it just causes wars...
So you hate people forcing religion on you, yet you wish for the same when it comes to your believes.

While an atheist is quick to say that atheism is not a religion, I say its a belief. There is no denying that there have wars and persecutions because what people believed in. People have fought since the Neolithic over beliefs.

While no wars have been fought in the name of atheism, there have been persecutions in the name of atheism under socialism and communism. Marx himself was an atheist and talked about how the church was used to control people. When the USSR was founded, they adopted state atheism. When Vietnam was united, they communist had plans to outlaw the practice Buddhism, toaism, and confucision. The same occurred in China over Mao took over. Those regimes saw religion as a threat to their power and used atheism to control the people much like how the pope ruled Europe through Catholicism. Even Blue Meanie was an atheist despite being a fascist, but he used the church to control people.

Religion and mythology was the science of its day, it was used to explain all the riddles we had. Over time people got more curious, and looked for new ways through math, exploration, botany, biology, and then you have science. The way you describe science, you make it sound like religion. Finding proof or no proof of god or how the universe was made is a waste of time.  We should be finding ways to better ourselves.

Every group has their extremists and radicals, atheism is no different. Christians, Jews, Muslims, atheists, and other beliefs have all claimed that they the sole one true belief, they have all the answers, they are correct. All them at one point believed that were right, and the things they did were justified. They believed they had good intentions.

I believe religious people and atheists can co-exist. Some people need religion to keep them sane, others need to rationalize. Others don't care and just live life.
Self-centered, group think, egocentricism is not the way. Understanding how different cultures, religions, and beliefs work and building an some sort understanding is probably the best way toward peace.

and younger people are also converting
imo, the bigger the internet gets, the more atheists there will be.

i always thought that if god (who is supposedly omnipotent) knew that you were only believing in him as a form of 'insurance' so to speak (which he should know) then he'd deny you entrance to heaven because your belief was motivated by a fear of punishment and not any real love.
but then wouldn't it be god's fault for having given you the ability to do such a thing?

What a bait thread.

I wish people luck trying to convince me that my personal beliefs based on personal experience and faith are "incorrect".

There's no right or wrong as far as if you believe or not. Atheists who like to argue that "God doesn't exist" are just looking to piss of people for entertainment.

we used religion as a way to explain things we couldn't understand and now that we can actually explain those things, it's just unnecessary. we can probably find new ways to instill good morals on children.
holy stuff that is a great way of putting it. I never thought about it like that.

"Miracles" were a lot more noticeable back then because the population was so small. Now that we've got 7 billion people on earth those things tend to go unnoticed, or they're very small. Like someone being cured of disease or someone cheating death. That's my theory, anyways.

While an atheist is quick to say that atheism is not a religion, I say its a belief. There is no denying that there have wars and persecutions because what people believed in. People have fought since the Neolithic over beliefs.
This is overgeneralization toward atheists, to imply that they do not think that their views on life are "beliefs."

Godwin's Law at work. You're comparing the opposition to figures commonly recognized by society as evil. This is known as Argument from Motives (or possibly ad-hominem) and is not a valid claim against atheism.
Religion and mythology was the science of its day, it was used to explain all the riddles we had. Over time people got more curious, and looked for new ways through math, exploration, botany, biology, and then you have science. The way you describe science, you make it sound like religion. Changing the topic at hand because "we have bigger things to worry about" is an ineffective way to convery your point, known as Red Herring by most high school English teachers. This argument about religion may not be important to you, but it is the topic of debate and should not be detracted by other arguments or topics (at least in a discussion specifically about it)
Every group has their extremists and radicals, atheism is no different. You're comparing various sets of beliefs simply because they are within the same ideological category. You cannot generalize toward atheism because "it is a belief system" and this paragraph contains no valid arguments against any claims made by any beliefs, including atheism.
I believe religious people and atheists can co-exist. Some people need religion to keep them sane, others need to rationalize. Others don't care and just live life.
Again, this is not directly or logically related to the topic at hand.
Self-centered, group think, egocentricism is not the way. Understanding how different cultures, religions, and beliefs work and building an some sort understanding is probably the best way toward peace.
Finishing by describing the pointlessness of the argument you've just participated in is not any logical point against the subject. If you wanted coexistence, you should have had your post include arguments in favor of that instead of arguments against various beliefs' religious validity.
tell me about how i'm going to go far in life picking part peoples' arguments on the internet.
List of Logical Fallacies if you want to go so far as to question my identification of your logic.

I believe there is a design to everything and not random chaos. "God" could be anything of intelligence.
