Perhaps we need to dissect this word.
Let's split the two letters on each end into IP and v4, Now IP stands for IP address, and v4 stands for version 4 so that means IPv4 is just "IP address version 4" which is the standard at the moment for IP addresses.
Although there's a new one called IPv6 which I don't know when that will be standardized, anyone know?
