Smaller caliber than a .22 but higher velocity and expensive as hell, just not practical...

The way the round is designed essentially makes it a lower-powered .223 rem that makes it appropriate for smaller weapons while still maintaining the edge of higher velocity, effectiveness over range, and greater entry than conventional pistol cartridges.
And 5.7mm = ~.22 in, so it's the same size as a 22 for caliber
