you can if it's phonetically dumb..

you don't say "jin" for gin do you.... you don't say "jig" for gig... you don't say "jim" for gym...

are you implying that english pronunciation rules aren't straightforward...

Because sh ALWAYS makes the shh sound. Never does it do something else.

G can make a soft or hard sound, however why would it make the soft sound in graphical? It makes no sense.
