but the bible mentions that there were angels who turned to follow satan. they were all cast out of heaven.
so there's more to the word "demon" than just being a metaphor

it may be possible for demons to manifest into humans or some other animals. it probably happened before, but no one thinks about that possibility.

there's an instance of demons manifesting physical human bodies recorded in the bible, though they were angels at the time. however, to my knowledge, that is the only time demons have assumed a physical body perceivable by humans. all other accounts I can think of involve them only possessing animals or humans
