Unless you have someone behind you telling you everything you need to do then you'll definitely have to make measurements and stuff

I said physical labor not construction. I do maintenance. I kept an island camp running with a crew of like 15 of us. We were given a list of stuff to do and we did it.

I'm not saying school shouldn't be mandatory I'm saying for people who aren't book smart like myself, I would rather not waste my time learning what atoms are or "A + B = C" stuff. It's not for everyone. Not everyone needs advance knowledge of everything.  I'd rather learn like I said, how mortgages work, how to manage my money, how to buy a car, how to do taxes and stuff like that. I'm not saying school shouldn't be mandatory. I'm saying there needs to be a wider variety in classes.

education isn't just about information, it's also about teaching practical mental skills (not just higher-level application skills such as filing taxes or filling out checks) which are all generally useful and help the individual apply the information they learn

for example, mathematics classes teach information which may not be useful to all students, but the underlying skills (critical thinking, problem solving, etc.) that drive mathematics are useful to everyone and are extremely important for modern jobs.
