and even if it's not directly helpful, learning math is stimulating and it makes a person a lot more intelligent

extracurricular skills are more important than good grades

Automation: I don't see it being too viable because that would mean there would only be a few jobs left. If such a thing were to able to happen, the only jobs left would be ceo, business manager/store owner, possibly technician and programmer, police officer, police chief, politician, military officer, and engineer.

Being a store owner/manager doesn't require too much education, however there are some problems with that. Most store chains rely on the middle class as the main source of income as well as the lower class. However if you eliminate most of the middle class job, people aren't making money which they aren't buying things. If people don't have money to spend, they aren't coming to your TV store anytime soon. I bet those corporate guys rarely shop at target or walmart, I have a feeling most are willing to import goods and have them delivered to them. Our society is built around money, the buying and selling of goods.

Not everyone the time, money, or mental capacity to go out to do something like cybernetic robotics engineering, or become corporate executive of some large company.
Higher education: We are at the point where the standard of living has gone up. Way back when all you needed to live a decent life was to work, then it became all you needed was a high school education, and up until recently you needed a two year degree. By decent living I mean you have enough for a house, not the best or worst house. You can pay for all your means, they aren't the best meals or the worst. You are able to pay for all your living expenses with some money left over for saving or burning. Now we are the point where you need a four year degree to live decently.

It's like the standards go up, but we are tied down. It is like Darwin's theory of evolution where only the strong survive.
Socialization is also an important skill and it is not something you are born with. You might be able to talk to family, but you that ability and confidence to talk to strangers. The only way to do that is to start at an early age and talk to kids and teachers you don't even know. There is no avoiding face to face communication because you are going to have to talk to people in the work place for just about any job.

i feel like mandatory public school all the way up to senior year is getting less and less practical every moment. with the internet being so huge and full of easily accessible information, many of my classes felt dated and useless as i already knew most of the material. what really bugs me is that in some classes we use textbooks from like the 90's and early 2000's that contain information that isn't even accurate anymore or has changed.

the only things i've learned that are useful were in my junior and senior years, which included business math, business management, us history, government, and economics. i don't remember stuff from any other class.

i did get social skills from high school though. before i was a freshman i was a awkward nerd who couldn't talk to anyone and played on the computer all day. i got made fun of a lot and cleaned up my act, started dressing better, and started partying. id probably still be a virgin if it weren't for high school.

yes, it should be mandatory. its a stuffty but overall worth it experience

it's even worse with religious families

I'm not autistic. Homeschool families who don't socialize their kids are those who stand out like Westboro does to Christianity, feminational socialists to feminists, and anti-theists to atheists among other things.

Oh hey, welcome back bro.

No, I was fully homeschooled until high school and it has definitely benefited me
Ladios:
No, the public school system is too flawed to mandate its use.
If they actually had universally decent teachers and catered to advanced students sufficiently, I would consider otherwise. But in my own experience public school slowed me down so much, and I will not put my own children through that when the day comes. (This isn't to say I would hide them away from society like people seem to assume I mean when I say this, I just notice that most people are stupid and being around stupid people while developing your views of the world can be very damaging.)
