that'd actually be a pretty bad idea, because it would gradually decrease genetic diversity to the point where large portions of the population would be incredibly susceptible to disease. that's one of the biggest benefits to loveual reproduction. it's a lot harder for an illness to spread through a diverse population. that's actually how the original banana crop was wiped out; the entire population was so inbred that when a disease hit, they were all screwed

if cloning were just creating a copy of yourself as you are i guess in theory that could be useful in certain situations but i don't think it's that great
