sure you may be able to convince someone of the skill or appeal it holds, and they may find respect for it, but i don't think someone's favor for a genre can really change one way or another through words

I have derived a LOT of enjoyment of music from reading about it. Sometimes reading about music adds a lot of context that simply listening does not provide. Some forms of music are so foreign when you put on an mp3, there's no context to how the musician made it, for what purpose it was made, etc. So I think a discourse surrounding music is really important to fully being able to appreciate some music.
