The Blockfessionals
SWAT One:
Okay let me stop you right there.
--- Quote from: shamester on February 24, 2015, 01:52:01 PM ---When I put that you needed to have an active YouTube account, or Twitter account, I thought that people that posted videos and tweeted about Blockland, were serious about Blockland, especially if you uploaded videos about servers, etc. as for BL related skill,
This does not represent dedication. This just represents that someone likes to share about Blockland. It says little about their intent to help teach players or represent players as professionals. Sure it may help, but it is not in your clan's best interests to require it for membership. Few people actually post Youtube videos about it, and I have yet to see Blockland be a significant presence on Twitter.
I will have to make tryouts to see how much someone knows about BL.
THIS is is an example of a good requirement at the minimum.
I am not expecting the clan to have a YouTube channel, Twitter, etc. I thought that having these account meant you were dedicated to Blockland, especially youtube.
Well, it doesn't really. I have no videos of Blockland up, yet I am still here, yet I enjoy this community, yet I still create cool stuff for fun, as do many other Blocklanders. Requiring a YouTube channel is a bottleneck towards getting your clan up and running.
Again, I will have to run tryouts or something to see in game skills, but as for now, I made it one year because I suspect that after one year, you should have learned to play Blockland and at least be good at it.
That's not always the case. The best way, as time and stable clans have proven, is to test applicants individually and have them submit applications.
When new people come into servers, such as prison escape, they always ask "how do you play this gamemode", as a member you should feel obligated to help people in those situations.
Is this the sole reason you believe that a clan be organized? It seems like a lot of work to have to go through an application process and be tied to a clan to have to feel obligated to help someone.
Ah, I thought it would be professional, and I liked the idea of an out-of-website survey. Also, I guess I could post the questions onto the forum, I just didn't have the time when I made the survey.
Well, with the survey being off-site, people could easily just submit spam messages or provide false information. On the forum, you have known members, with BL_IDs included on their profile already. Some players are more prominent than others, and other members will go out of their way to recommend them for the position. If you believe that it should be more private, you could also use the PM system.
It's not that easy, the questions on the survey, as you may or may not have read aren't that easy to answer, but I will also have to some background to the person that wants to join.
Those are easy questions to answer, and easily falsified. Here are examples of constructive ones:
--- Quote from: Example ---
* Where can you see this clan in a month? Three months? A year?
* What do you believe you will bring to the Blockfessionals?
* If you could change anything about this clan, what would it be? Why?
--- End quote ---
These questions seek to expose the intent of the applicant. Question 1 shows the applicant's belief on the clan's longevity, and it shows if the player is optimistic about the clan's development going forward. Question 2 pins the core values of the clan to the applicant. It forces them to think if they will be serious in their "career" with the clan. It also shows if the player will be willing to go above and beyond the clan's standards to represent the clan. Question 3 also displays the intent of the applicant should they be a member. It says also, should there be a common vibe amongst other players, what values the clan should reflect. These questions aim to critically brown townyze the applicant as well as provide a springboard for clan development.
