Description

This is a little forum game I've decided to do and it is based upon the experience of an armored crew member inside of a tank sitting in skirmishes anywhere in the world where armored conflicts have happened such as Russia, Germany, ETC . In this little forum game you'll get to choose a country and you'll use the tank that is provided as an roleplaying device, The countries that will be available will Be USA, Russia, and Germany. The stats of the tank you'll be in will be posted as well as a picture.

How to play

You simply choose a country and your position inside that tank but once a position is taken do not complain about it, I highly suggest you read up on the positions.
Once you've decided which country you'll choose please post what you'll do in a format as such:

Position inside of the tank, this means Assistant driver, tank commander, etc
Skills, you can have a max of 3 skills like Repair, Shooting, Etc
Mental stability, how well you are able to act inside of a cramped, smelly, and hot tank while you see dead bodies.

Once you've chosen your country, position, and skills I will post a scenario that will be faced on the roleplaying field, try to imagine yourself in these scenarios as one difference can mean life or death.

The countries and tanks

USA

For the USA role you have the M4A2 "Jumbo" Sherman. The M4A2 is armed with 2 .30cal light machine guns and a .50cal heavy machine gun for anti-personnel and light armor but your main weapon is the 75mm cannon. You have 3in of armor with the ability to mount logs to absorb some impact from enemy shells.

Russia

For the Russian role you have the T34/76. You are armed with a 76.2mm main cannon and two 7.62mm machine guns. Your armor is at most 2in thick but you have an advantage over the Sherman, You have more angled sides making it appear as your armor were thicker. the T-34/76 was considered one of the best tanks of WWII

Germany

Now, the last tank for use will be the Panzer IV. Armed with a 2.95in cannon and 2 MG-34 and max of 3 in of armor you'll be able to withstand most attacks by the tanks on this list.

Turkey before 1917 called it!

Gonna stay in my sandy trenches. I got landmines n such. 200 of us slaughtered thousands of British, Australians, and New Zelanders so I think our defense if pretty swag yo.

Hopeful bump to get started.

soviet crews were hella undertrained and were basically cannonfodder on average

roles of tank are radio operator, commander, loader, gunner, and driver, correct?

Just saying, in terms of armor the M4A3E2 "Jumbo" Sherman was far superior to its Russian counterpart. About 120mm effective frontal armor and 80mm side armor. Doesn't matter if the Russian tank's armor is angled when even effectively it's still not any better than the Sherman's.

Shermans also had horizontal aiming stabilizers, which let Sherman gunners keep their eyes on a target. Firing on the move was still questionable however.

Shermans were not prone to fire, might I add. This is a myth formed by the fact that the Germans knew how good Americans were at fixing their tanks, so they would keep filling American tanks with holes until they finally hit something flammable. Many German tanks also used gasoline engines, and later Shermans had wet ammo storage on the bottom of the tank, drastically reducing ammo cook-offs.

Also, logs weren't mounted to tanks for improvised armor, they were to help tanks get out of mud. If a tank's treads don't have the traction to push the tank out of the mud, you'd get a log, and attach it to the treads. Then when the treads go under the tank with the log, it acts as a huge paddle that pushes the tank out.

At best, logs would offer a bonus of 0-5mm RHA with tons of weakspots, because they're wood. Not RHA.

American crews were also trained very well compared to the bucket-heads thrown in Soviet armor.

Sorry, I just hate it when people say "muh t-34 best tank in ww2 sherman was roasted by tigers" when in reality the only reason Russia wasn't defeated by national socialist Germany was because of the Russian winter and Russia's huge pool of men and steel. Not the quality of the men or steel.

Against Panthers, for example, Shermans had a 1-5 k/d ratio in the Panther's favor... vs the T-34's 1-9 k/d ratio in the Panther's favor.

However I'd like to note that I'm not saying the T-34 is a bad tank. It's very comparable to the Sherman, which had poor weight dispersion in its thin tracks, and was generally slower. The Jumbo could only go 20-22 kmph, if I recall.

What I am saying is that the Sherman was just as good as the T-34 but in different ways. The thing that truly set them apart was the crew in the tanks.

Crew, the X-factor that lets disabled and burning tanks fire their machineguns and hold off a whole assault of mechanized infantry by removing the enemy armor's infantry support. This is a true story that I can't remember the name of but enough googling will dig it up.

Finally, note that I referred to it as the M4A3E2. Not the M4A2. The M4A2 and the M4A3 are two significantly different Shermans, and the M4A3E2 is an M4A3 with a forget ton of armor added. It would've used the high-velocity 76mm, as well, but Germany didn't have many tanks left by the time the M4A3E2 was needed and the 75mm was a great antipersonnel weapon whereas the 76mm had very poor high explosive rounds.

Anyway, M4A3E2 Tank Commander.

Skills/traits-
Good eye. Can spot advancing infantry before most.
Machinegunner. Knows how to take advantage of the Sherman's .50 caliber mounted on the commander's hatch.
Mechanic. Good at fixing tracks and engine problems, and when it comes to armor there's nothing some duck tape can't fix.

Mental Stability-
Veteran. Cool-headed in battle but abrasive and paranoid at the encampment.

Panzer IV Tank commander.

Traits:
Deathly loyal to his country. Willing to crash tank into other tank and push both off into river if he has to.
Expert handgun shot. As a tank commander, absolutely useless, but he can hit what he's aiming at with a handgun.
Time spent working with artillery. Knows a thing or two about flinging metal.

Mental stability:
Decent. As said, loyal enough to an hero for country. Dosn't mind being couped up in a tank, gets a little twitchy when he sees corpses.

Secondary post just to make sure it's read: Cant do the do 'till tomarrow.
