The transports' escorts break off and head straight for Lefty (and by extension, Sabre, even though they haven't spotted him yet) while Shortsword, Tippy, Hawkeye, and Walt skirt around the enemy AWACS' detection radius to prepare for an attack on the dirigibles.

Considering none of them are actually on your tail yet, this doesn't do anything. Two of the Drakens fire heatseekers at you.

The leader drops flares and turns hard, firing an AAM at you that goes wide.
: [Will you idiots make yourselves useful and get this sneaky prick off me?]

As their leader attempts to shake you off, Draken 1 and 2 attempt to fall in behind you. They have considerable difficulty keeping up with your plane; one of them fires a burst of gunfire that misses by a mile, and the other sits a bit farther back and attempts to obtain a lock.
The fighter escort is now a considerable distance from their objectives. As soon as Kibble gives the order, the attack on the transports can start, or she can wait a little longer for the diversion team to drag the escort farther away.
