The Kintharians open fire with their rairguns, taking out a handful of corvettes and patrol boats. : [Someone made a mistake.] The circular crest on the bow of the Huit dreadnought lowers out of the way to reveal what appears to be a huge-bore gun barrel built into the ship. At the end of the barrel, near the breech, lies a nuclear device. : [Someone made a big goddamn mistake.] The admiral depresses the activation trigger, and the nuclear device detonates. Rather than destroying the dreadnought and its entire escort, the entirety of the destructive force is channeled down the barrel of the cannon, emerging as a blinding cone of light. The Kintharian detachment is entirely obliterated; whatever ships weren't completely atomized had their crews boiled alive and were drawn in and capsized as the ocean rushed in to fill the channel left behind by the beam. The battlefield is now covered in an eerie, visibility reducing mist, a result of the millions of gallons of vaporized water. The only reason the Mercanan fleet remains is due to their captain's caution, which put them just out of reach of the weapon. : What the forget just happened!? : Pilots? Are any of you still flying? You had front-row seats to whatever the hell that thing just did, someone report! : I have no idea, sir! Some kind of directed energy weapon mounted in the bow? : Whatever it is, it just wiped out the Kintharians.
