Laser-guided missiles care not for silly things like infrared signiatures. Tempest's only hope for evading the missile is for allied forces on the ground to incapacitate the operator. Unfortunately, the Marines are either too deafened, spiteful, or simply far away to take care of the missile team and he takes a hit. He's lucky it was only a smaller, short-ranged shoulder-fired model, or things could have turned out far worse.
