Author Topic: wasd vs esdf  (Read 2951 times)

I personally have never encountered a game that uses ESDF.

Also, seems a bit stuffty to gain QAZ but lose Ctrl.

With WASD you still have Q and Z, and X isn't too difficult to get to.
And, Tab, Caps and Shift are in reach (although not always automatically bound in games you often can set them as keybinds), and you can get to Ctrl.

It's also just a little bit easier to reach 1,2,3 and then move your hand to get 4 to 0. And you're probably more likely to need 123 first.
WHereas you may need to shift your hand slightly to reach 1 if using ESDF.

i used esdf on tf2 when my W key was beginning to cease function and its actually not that bad
weird to get used to but its alright

but makes ctrl almost unreachable.
i just tried it and can confirm this is not true

I personally think ESDF can be beneficial in RTS/MOBA games where you need to perform more actions faster.

as someone with huge hands i don't ever lose Ctrl  :cookieMonster:

Guys people have different keyboards that are bigger and smaller and shaped differently. If you can reach CTRL with esdf odds are you have a smaller keyboard.

esdf seems more practical but I don't see any game that uses it

I think one of the Tribes games used esdf by default

it was Tribes 2.

I've only used WASD, I haven't tried using ESDF. It'd be harder to reach ctrl for me, but I usually use that for voice coms instead of crouching - I actually use V to crouch because I'm weird.

I have a full sized mechanical keyboard and I can reach it fine... All you gotta do is move your pinky lol

Who's V do you use?

seems practical but it would.make me look like some kind of hipster
fpss and grand strategy's don't really use up that many keys anyways so its not really much UAE for me

I do actually have small hands. :(
Oh, okay then. I can see your argument.

hjkl is clearly the best
