Author Topic: computer guts thread  (Read 2020 times)

I remember when my 660Ti, 8GB Ram, i5 and ASROCK Z77 was all the hype.
Paid 1100 for the parts; now it ain't worth half of that.

Edit:
I should visit the computer megathread but I've been putting it off as I feel like it's a battle between who's parents give the most money.

mine's a slightly upgraded prebuilt from 2009, i think it cost around $600 when we got it.

the only upgraded stuff is:
GTX460 (it was meant for my sister but wouldn't fit in her case so it's mine now)
2GB more RAM (started with only 2gb)
secondary 300gb hard drive taken from my mom's old dell dimension

i'm supposed to be getting a new computer this month though

edit: i have no idea why my stuff idles at such a high temperature. maybe it's because one of my front fans is practically broken and the side vents are right by my CRT.

That hose coming out the back goes through another (more powerful) fan and out my window through a sealed adapter. My PC gets hot enough that it would regularly get up to 32C in my room before I made it.

this is my computer

pretty neat huh

looks like a fire waiting to happen

that lovey IDE cable tho

can we see a picture of the inside?
that would involve unplugging everything and moving it to the floor and then unscrewing the side panel and dusting it out until it's presentable. a.k.a. more work that i'm willing to put in. it's really nothin pretty though, it doesn't even have any fancy lighting except on the external fans.

Cupcake, that build is amazing. Mine is in the Enthoo Pro. Love that case....

Couple things to note;
• The second GPU was to power my second monitor because I could. Gonna take it back out soon because it's useless.
• It currently has one of the worst Haswell CPUs you can buy. I'm going to buy my brothers i5 when I get the money and he's going to get an i7.
• Starts in around 12-15 seconds. I love my SSD.
• If I have enough money, I'm going to water cool it this summer. If not, then for Christmas.

enthoo 4 lyfe

it's out of frame, but i've got a enthoo luxe with the small window removed and replaced with a mesh filter and the large one replaced with a better quality piece of plexi glass

tomorrow i'm painting accents and highlights, i'll look even better

Yup. I saw in the Battlestation thread that you had the Luxe. A darn fine case. XD

Edit: where did you get the better plexiglass? Mine is not in the greatest shape...

just got some from ace hardware, they cut it into the rough shape and then i just silicone sealed it

it's a little farther back than stock since it isn't cut to fit in the hole but personally I like it that way

also - im sure if you had some patience (and liked the glass seated flush with the panel) you could do some scoring and snap the corners off so it fits correctly

Yeah. I tried making a window in my last ($25) case. It was alright. I'd rather not deal with cutting plexiglass. XD

I'd say the windows are probably the worst part of Phantek's cases, and even still they're not that bad...

mine came scratched and literally shattered, decided to make my own instead of RMA'ing the whole damn case for a equally stuffty foggy panel

if you don't like cutting you can just seat it behind the panel like I did or take it to a glass cutting company for a bit more
