You have to earn opportunities, not expect them to just be thrown at you.
earning [bigger] opportunities also requires opportunities that someone might not have though. it's not that it's impossible; it's just significantly more difficult in such a way that 'laziness' ultimately appears to be the better option. or rather, the lack of opportunity (to earn bigger opportunities) causes such a situation
i don't really think it's fair to assume that these people are just "lazy," you begin to kinda get into the area of "people that are in bad situations should just get out of them..." or perhaps more to the point, "poor people should stop being poor" which is a fairly ludicrous outlook on the situation in my personal opinion.
another, possibly less-biased way to word the idea is that people in poor conditions must accept a high degree of responsibility for their condition, whether it be for putting themselves in it or for not getting out of it. the problem ofc being that they might not be responsible for being put into the situation and may not have the means of getting out, which is what i'm saying
