So yeah, I found a old PS3 in a dumpster. It will turn on and beep three times and the light turns red. Obviously, this means it has the YLOD. There's no way this thing has a warranty, and I'm not shelling out a couple 100 bucks to fix a old outdated PS3 (that may have backwards compatibility).

Any of you guys have a clue on what to do? I know I shouldn't be asking a forum for a game about blocks, but I'm certain there has to be a FEW people who know a thing or 2 about hardware.

Thanks if you can help.

Open it up and send us images of the internals.

Alright then, hold up a sec. Gotta grab a Phillips and get to unscrewing.

Also, the cover just comes off, which mean someone tried to fix it and failed.

There are tons of videos on fixing YLOD's... I don't know how many of them are legit though.

Alright, I'm stuck on getting the disc drive off. Someone apparentally took the Phat drive off and replaced it with a Slim drive. Any ideas on how to remove it?

Just google a guy who fixes it in your area. I found someone who fixed mine for 25€.

use percussive maintenance

Do you see any screws or clips or anything that can help you detach the drive? Also, you might want to provide an image of the PS3 in it's current state.

you could visit a best buy or something and see what they have to say

Make sure to clean it.

bang it with a rock until it works
