I would probably use Piper if anyone.
Human companions are usually more interesting, can usually hold more (I think), can be improved by having them hold better armour and weapons, and unlike animals can do ranged attacks, so they don't piss off and get lost.

You shouldn't, outdoor map size means literally nothing to me in Fallout games
There is some serious angst going on in that comment section though, people are really desperate to find any reason to stuff on the game
