christ I installed that ONE mod that shows full dialog choices and now my game suddenly won't run for more than a half hour

Strange, I've got that mod as well as a few others and I haven't even crashed once since launch.

the worst part is if I try to remove the mod the game just immediately crashes when I try to load the save

See if you can start a new game. It'll tell you whether it's ruining your saves or the mod was uninstalled incorrectly.
