the thing that i really like about the fo4 companions over the new vegas companions is that all the new vegas companions have enormous sweeping quest lines to them that end up actually factoring into the endgame and that means a lot of your companions are extremely important people like arcade looks pretty simplistic and understated until you start talking to the guy and suddenly the remnants of the forgetin enclave come out of nowhere you talk to veronica too long and youre wrapped up in a decision that will directly determine the fate of the brotherhood of steel too close to boone and eventually you end up going toe-to-toe with the entire cottonwood cove camp and trash everything and everyone inside the only ones who really fall out of that pattern are cass and rex and raul maybe (if you don't count him turning into zombie desert batman as 'enormous and sweeping') but then like curie on the broadest scale is just a cute science girl who can shoot a gun straight and likes to help people who might end up doing something significant (actually probably considering synths are straight-up immortal?) but ultimately right now shes just content to wander around being nice to people and like cait is just some goober on All the Drugs in the World with a tragic backstory and strong is just strong you could argue dogmeat, valentine and x6 are all pretty big players but they're not like earthshakingly ginormous like the remnants showing up out of nowhere in invincible power armor to kick the legion's collective balls and that makes them actually feel more worthwhile |
