personally I feel that people expect way too much of a sonic game and then get really critical when they come out
because sega does that thing where they release two meh games but then a really good one or two
like sonic rush was good, then sonic '06 came out, and sonic colors/generations was good, but then rise of lyric came out
sure '06 wasn't that great, but lyric wasn't terrible in any objective aspect

Tbh, the only thing I expect out of them is a non-gimmicky fast platformer game that has no story and has only one goal: kick Eggman's teeth in for enslaving animals and forcing them into robots.
I don't expect anything else than that. I mean, if people want more characters, then I guess they could be clones of sonic just reskined and with simple changes to change them up. Kinda like Knuckles and Tails in the first games.
