Author Topic: [VOTE] what is the best movie genre of all time?? - ADVENTURE vs DRAMA!  (Read 567588 times)

at the rate things are going we may never reach "[VOTE] best previous poll of all time"

Zombie moves are too ''lame?'' or ''clishe?''. I don't know. They just all seem like the same thing and I haven't seen ONE good zombie movie. Any recommendations? I'm talking like GOOD, like eh, Schindler's List good? Just the best you've got.
Like all genre's, each film in it will be trying to do different things and good in different ways.
Here's a list of my favourites and what they're like.

28 Days Later
Not your standard zombie mythos. Zombies are fast and enraged, but still cannibal. The film features some very scary and heart-thumping moments. It also explores life after zombies, and the few who survived. It's very action heavy at times, but has some incredibly somber moments, but has a terrific finale. Also a great soundtrack.
Further Reading: 28 Weeks Later - A much less clever sequel, quite americanised, but a decent zombie action film.

Land of the Dead
A classic of the 'Living Dead' series, by George A. Romero, the biggest name in zombie films. It features Romero Zombies, slow, lumbering dead who are easily distracted, but are powerful in their massive numbers. The film has action scenes, but lacks many scares. It explores the politics of the post-apoc, as well as gives a new look on Zombies and how they may be more than just unthinking ravenous monsters.

Shaun of the Dead
A cult classic now, part of the Cornetto Trilogy, and an homage to the long established zombie genre, particularly to the work of Romero. A comedy by all means, but focussed on humans, with a small amount of gore based humour. While not a film to make you think, it will make you laugh, as it chides the cliches of films, as well as takes a jab at British life and mediocrity.

Warm Bodies
A modern film, with a new take on the zombie mythos, which plays directly with the concept that zombies aren't mindless. With a zombie protagonist the film makes for a novel idea, even if it's not spectacularly written. While it avoids several zombie cliches it hits many others, including teen awkwardness and Romeo/Juliet romances. It's short on scares and mild on action, but it's got some laughs and is an interesting plot.
Further Reading: Zombieland - More teen awkwardness and romance, but a more conventional story. Arguably funnier and stronger than Warm Bodies, but nothing you won't have seen before.

Dead Snow
A completely silly, foreign, B movie. It's guts galore and oozes absurdity throughout. Lacking in plot, but full of humour and can't-believe-this-was-made-ness.
Further Reading: Dead Snow 2 - A direct sequel, with much more pplot, but even more zombies, gore, bizareness and laughter. Features a ridiculous finale.

everyone here is a nerd who doesnt play sports or have any interest in it so of course they pick zombies

You show me a good sports movie and I'll show you a stuff representation of sports and also a bad film.

Zombie: 46 votes (76.7%)
Sports: 14 votes (23.3%)

Sports has been eliminated from the tournament

now we will look at COMEDY vs WAR!

Monty Python and the Holy Grail ought to carry Comedy to the win!

Comedy is pretty vague, and therefore there's gold and stuff in the same bag.
However, I associate 'War movies' with WW2 and Vietnam films, of which there are some great examples, but also a lot of samey, boring films. I think TV is probably a better medium for War stories, generally.

So, although it's a pretty empty statement to say "I like comedy", I always enjoy a laugh, and it's getting my somewhat begrudgingly given vote.

i havent seen a good war movie in a long time, but there have been a few good comedies here and there

comedy like seth rogan funnies??????

comedy is a loving joke

the hell is "war"
