What's not funny anymore is that people won't freaking buy blockland gold and support blockland development. Buy it and you can see the chats.

stop

lol people are still sour about maps even after 3 years

get a grip kiddies

badspot traded terrains and interiors for horribly optimized shaders
I wonder if I'll finally be able to run shaders properly when I have my new 980 ti.

I never got to use maps but I think I would prefer this anyway, it makes it so people need to be more creative.

Holy forget stop, I did it once to make it a good ol' joke but that's just, no

I have a 1gb graphics card from 2007, so yes

to be perfectly fair, the shadows now have to be able to account for a potential one million objects every frame

luckily we have an oct tree which probably helps a massive amount (thx kompressor) but that's still a pretty tall order

Not really. Having an environment to build in really helps. I personally cannot make terrain for crap, so V21 really makes it hard for me to build. It's just not the same when everything is flat.

Maps were and will always be the biggest excuse to not build.
Imagine seeing all the half added RPs hosted on the same city map over and over and over.
It got old.

Well, appearantly my old 690 doesn't cut it. It keeps getting unplayable.

Oct tree?

Oct tree?

it's some mythical entity that makes life easier for having tons of bricks
or something like that?

what
this probably makes more sense

The one which we know as the online alias kompressor, also known as Ben Garney, developed a system for streamlining the brick rendering process by behind the scenes combining them into a cohesive unit, allowing for far bigger builds in retail. This is called the oct tree.

If bricks weren't locked to a grid, the oct tree system Lord Kompressor gave us likely wouldn't exist. I don't know if I can properly tell how amazing the oct tree is, but the important part is that it is the key component that allows us to have such a ridiculous number of bricks without performance impact.
