Author Topic: I think the oilers will do well with Mcdavid. What do you think?  (Read 2303 times)

I love how most Americans are so uneducated about Canada.
what was that eh

Canada is weird. There's an old lady on every sign and one of the highways as you enter the country is named after weed.

Toronto is also kind of ugly and really sprawled out.

IMO it'll be a year or two before McDavid finds his touch, but once he does, the Oilers have a 50/50 shot in my eyes of either continuing to suck because McDavid can't carry the team solo or being good but not quite a contender. McDavid is good but not one man team good. I'm a Devs fan so I was lucky to witness 2 cups in my lifetime and I think in at most 3 seasons the Devs will be competitive again. Good, solid D core in Severson, Santini, Larsson, and Greene, and Schneider is a beast. With Palmieri coming on, hopefully that's another 20 goal scorer once Zubrus doesn't get re-signed making the team competitive.

Editing to say we need an NHL megathread because hockey is the master race sport and other sports are for plebs. This season coming up is going to be a good one because half the teams are in salary cap hell and need to drop some dead weight and free up cap space.

I understand where you're coming from, but I cant agree with your premises completely.
Yeah, Mcdavid cant carry our team, we're very well aware of that. But what makes this off season a huge achievement for the oilers is not only the fact that we got Mcdavid, but the changes in management, some solid defense and goaltending, and a change with coaching and development. So I cant garantue a top 16 spot from the oilers, but I know one thing, we wont be a bottom 3 team for sure.

Talbot is solid, I don't know how I feel about Scrivens though. The Oilers won't be bottom 3, but I think it'll take a bit for them to be higher than bottom 6.

I can feel the team strengthening more and more this off season, Scrivens isnt the best goalie, niether has our previous goaltenders.
But we've aquired Talbot and Nielson, this is one of the many big steps we've taken this off-season. I honestly think that next season in my (somewhat biased) opnion, that the oilers will be somewhere in the bottom 6-12 places.
