lol my school doesn't offer either of those
Sorry, then. If you want to learn to file your taxes, the future is now. Google's been a thing for a long time, you don't get an excuse.

"Could we discuss domestic abuse and get the facts
or how to help my depressed friend with their mental state?"
Ummm... no but learn mental maths
because "you won't have a calculator with you every day!"

Whew, this guy's a dipstuff. Learning about math makes learning about depression and abuse impossible somehow? lmao what the forget

isn't it your parents' job to teach you life skills
agreed. it's the parents job to make sure their kids can survive in the world, schools just educate them. it's unreasonable to pin ignorance about depression or domestic abuse on schools.

what is the google
page lost
go back and read the exact last post of page 6

...if you actually managed to "miss something" on a page right in front of you, that's your own deficiency, and regardless of who's trying to teach you that wouldn't change

My answer hasn't changed. Google still will tell you how to do your taxes. If you miss something, that's your fault because the information is there. If you really, really can't do it, there's people out there whose job is literally to do your taxes for you.

...if you actually managed to "miss something" on a page right in front of you, that's your own deficiency, and regardless of who's trying to teach you that wouldn't change
these are all just hypothetical situations but what if i were to find a page that seemingly had all of the information i needed for said skill but it didn't
what would there be to tell me that i forgeted off on a huge part of what i needed to know for SAID SKILL

i'm done arguing with you guys because you most likely didn't watch the second video/have no intention of doing so because 'ehh too bothersome to keep up with what i'm arguing about!'
« Last Edit: August 08, 2015, 01:07:12 AM by Daswiruch »

look it up on the internet
there are tutorials for everything
Ok, let me directly quote the guy on the second video for this one, because I think that I have heard something similar to this a lot.
Quote
"It doesn't address the point at all why are we learning this set of things? Why do you think we should google these certain things. Why shoulden't we google the quadratic equation. Why are oxbow lakes specifically more of a priority than knowing how to stop someone bleeding to death. We wont all think of every useful bit of information independently of one another.
If we all relied on Google, we'd miss things, we'd make mistakes which could easily be rectified by a teacher."

when it comes to legitimately important things google will pretty much always prioritise official and verified sources; you will almost definitely never have that issue

Whew, this guy's a dipstuff. Learning about math makes learning about depression and abuse impossible somehow? lmao what the forget
holy forget, i'm now convinced that this guy never graduated from middle school in neither a literal nor mental sense
that's textbook edgy teenager stuff

Ok, let me directly quote the guy on the second video for this one, because I think that I have heard something similar to this a lot.
Thinking skills are just as important as practical skills. Knowing how to do complicated math prepares you do solve problems. It's as simple as that.

Also, the fancy thing about that example you gave is that there are people whose jobs are literally (gee this is familiar huh) to stop people's bleeding and other people whose jobs are to do equations. School teaches you to do jobs, first and foremost. You want to stop people's bleeding? Go to loving school for it.

I was never taught how to vote
they devoted that time to defining isotopes
maybe it's harder in england but at least here, you don't have to solve the hellraiser puzzle and go steal a golden idol to vote, it's pretty straight forward. just go to a kiosk and press a button
Quote
I wasn’t taught how to look after my health
but mitochondria is the powerhouse of the cell
this one is a bit applicable cus i do think some schools aren't very good at teaching basic health, but it's not a matter of knowing how to be healthy, it's caring to be healthy, and forget that stuff lunchables forever

Never spent a lesson on current events
instead I studied The Old American West
what kinda back-assed school doesn't ever cover current events at all? "yo i know the twin towers got bombed but i am contractually obligated to not talk about osama, instead let's discuss the ming dynasty"

I was never taught what laws there are.
I was never taught what laws there are.
don't murder, don't rape, don't steal, don't loiter, forget, just use common sense! well, not always but still
Quote
Let me repeat - I was not taught the laws for the country I live in,
but I know how Henry the VIII killed his women.
didn't henry BEND the laws to do that stuff? that's pretty interesting. nah you'd rather learn about penal code, okay.

Divorced beheaded died, divorced beheaded survived
glad that’s in my head instead of financial advice
now that's just boyinaband's sick mind, i mean look at the guy. divorced behedead died is in his head 24/7. no wonder he did that 26 genre song

I was shown the wavelengths of different hues of light

once again, if your school doesn't teach you your human rights your teacher probably likes jagermeister more than teaching.

Who controls it? How does the thing that motivates the world function?
yeah i wish school taught a class where they told us where government came from oh WEEEEEELLL

not taught how to budget and disburse my earnings
I was too busy rehearsing cursive.
boyinaband... you may say a lot of things i disagree with, but i am with 100%. forget cursive.

they teach you cursive and then the next year they say NO MORE CURSIVE because no one in the world outside of forgetin OXFORD can read that stuff.

Quote
Didn’t learn how much it costs to raise a kid or what an affidavit is
but I spent days on what the quadratic equation is
i feel like teaching kids how to raise children might coincide with the conundrum of teen pregnancy, and we kinda want to avoid that.

negative b plus or minus the square root of b squared

They made me learn that over basic first aid

How to recognise the most deadly Mental disorders // or
diseases with preventable causes // How to buy a

‘cause abstract maths was deemed more important
"hold on guys i remember learning about this in high school... yeah he's got schizophrenia"

what kinda ESP do you want bro, the reason why they don't teach you how to identify every mental disorder is cus it takes years to be able to do that stuff.
Quote
than advice that would literally save thousands of lives
but it’s cool, ‘cause now I could tell you if the number of unnecessary deaths caused by that choice was prime.
LITERALLY

guys it would literally save thousands of lives if we were all psychiatrists.

we don't need forgetin scientists

Ummm... no but learn mental maths
because “you won’t have a calculator with you every day!”
do we not have counseling offices?

also what kinda math teacher says "nah ur friend sucks lol let's do fibonacci numbers", pretty sure the guy would call the authorities.

They chose the solar over the political system
So like a typical citizen now I don’t know what I’m voting on
how much you wanna bet boyinaband would be the first to say politicians are all bullstuffters. yet apparently not when solar energy is involved.

But I won’t take it
I’ll tell everyone my childhood was wasted
I’ll share it everywhere how I was “educated”

so in the world boyinaband describes, we scrap all sciences, advanced math, and history, and instead learn things that only apply to the next 10 years. sure, all the stuff he's saying is very important is very important, but also... so is loving history??

stick to making beats bro. you're note exactly spitting mad game.

it's unreasonable to pin ignorance about depression or domestic abuse on schools.
well, those should be taught in schools
the mental stuff could easily be an entire class, because neurology and psychology are not only interesting but also very valid career fields
the abuse stuff would probably be difficult to put in a class, but maybe a general health class could be a good place to stick that in somewhere. there should at least be a few times in your public school education where your teachers talk to you about that kind of thing, because if the parent is being abusive to the kid it's unlikely that they're going to have any way to know what to do about it without someone else's help

isn't it your parents' job to teach you life skills
Quote
"it's basically saying that your quality of life should be dictated by luck. because some people's parents are uneducated, some people's parents friggen suck at parenting, and 153 million children's parents are dead, but screw them bro, bummer."

"Could we discuss domestic abuse and get the facts
or how to help my depressed friend with their mental state?"
Ummm... no but learn mental maths
because "you won't have a calculator with you every day!"

taking this literal, why the forget would you discuss domestic abuse, present day issues or social issues in a class not meant for that kind of stuff? there's almost always going to be some kind of 'life' class in most schools, or even history, that's going to keep up with current issues. your depressed friend should go see somebody who's actual profession is to deal with people like him, or stuff if they're even available, the school counselor

'153 million children's parents are dead' do they not have adult guardians or caretakers

here's my ultimate reasoning for why what you learn currently at school is important:

imagine how forgetin dumb you'd look if you didn't know what happened at normandy

just imagine that scenario and you should be fine
My schools didn't even teach me about ww2. All they ever talked about was the concentration camps and the jews. Everything else I learned on my own time, even the persecution of other groups sent to the camps.

well, those should be taught in schools
the mental stuff could easily be an entire class, because neurology and psychology are not only interesting but also very valid career fields
the abuse stuff would probably be difficult to put in a class, but maybe a general health class could be a good place to stick that in somewhere. there should at least be a few times in your public school education where your teachers talk to you about that kind of thing, because if the parent is being abusive to the kid it's unlikely that they're going to have any way to know what to do about it without someone else's help
the problem with domestic abuse would be that you can preach it all you want, but there's very little you could do to actually make people learn it. you can't test it, you can't study it exactly, and really it's just not priority. if you were gonna hit your future wife, i don't think your teacher 5 years ago telling you not to is going to change your mind. although i suppose knowing what to do when it's happening would be a very useful skill.

depression though is something that could be taught in a real class, and I agree that it should be. however, at present, it's not the schools fault that people don't know "how to help my depressed friend with their mental state?".
