Author Topic: Was water more detailed preV21?[VIDEO]  (Read 2867 times)

Old water is marginally better looking, but both are kind of ugly anyway.

Old has 'waves' (although I don't think they affected people/vehicles on/in the water), but it didn't move people.

Basically Old looked a bit more realistic, but New is better for gameplay.

but New is better for gameplay.

...but in what way?

With the old water, if you REALLY wanted to make a flat, bland, one layer piece of slated static ugly stuff, you could. In v21, this is all you're allowed to have.

maybe hes refering to how moving water in v21 affects players but in v20 it didnt

so having v20 water push/move players is not possible?

What? Yes it is.

What? Yes it is.
The waves didn't move players up and down though

Nor do the ones in v21 (what waves?)..? I don't see how that's any different. They could still move players horizontally just like in this version.

v20: Waves did not affect players.
v21: No waves.

...I'll take the waves

I don't remember the pre v20 waves actually moving the player up and down with it

it doesn't matter it made water actually feel like water

I'm just referring to what was said above

But no doubt about it that the water was much better in v20
You could even put reflecting textures on it like on the apocalyptic San Andreas map GSF Ghost did

v20 water could make waves, remember?

Yes, and v21 can't easily, which is why I said "what waves?" in parentheses after talking about v21 waves.

i think he means the addon that makes the water go up and down

In the sense that we can customise its height, colour, texture, movement of players, direction of flow and speed on the go.
You needed to specifically set that stuff for v20 in the map, and you needed a different map altogether if you wanted to change it. If you could change any of this via console (I don't know if that was a thing) then it wasn't made accessible enough.

If we could have the bobbing water alongside the environment menu then that would be best.
But I personally would prefer the option to set a high/low tide in game linked to the day/night cycle over the bobbing, yet uninteractive, waves.
