It's more of a gimmick. It's a better way to get fingerprints impaled on your screen than to interface with UI. (Seriously, fingerprints and grease on the screen is really a bigger issue than anything else at this point. If they made a fingerprint-proof, oil-and-grease-repellent screen, THAT would be revolutionary.)

Is it well furnished beneath your rock? Yeesh, are you going to say that the 6 had the first 1080p display next or something? Apple has been playing catch up on Pokédex features for a while now. The article in the OP literally states what one of the features is copying.
