Why do forum avatars take forever to change/not change at all?

I've been trying to get this avatar to work and when I try to save nothing happens or I get an error, I've tried resizing it from 75 to 68 but nothing works

Try compressing your image.

If there is no error message, the it means it worked and you probably need to clear your cache.
