he's been the only administrator for 12 years... guess he decided to sell the site to hiroyuki so he can pay his rent.

if you've been following 4chan through the years, they had some pretty bad issues with financing. moot didn't really like donations, 4chan pass never really went anywhere, and not many advertisers paid to advertise on 4chan. plus, everyone use adblockers anyway.

i'm honestly surprised the site has lasted for so long despite it dying several times. even though moot lost touch with the community over the past 5 years, he did the best he could to keep it afloat. it just never had anything to bring in major revenue - here, our accounts are $20, at least. unless the price changed, i haven't bought one in like 9 years
