The best way to learn to build better is to try and replicate pictures to the best of your abilities. Once you've practiced that enough, you can start taking the techniques you use to replicate the photos and combine them to create original builds.

I also copied the designs of other builds at times, for instance if I saw a bench that I really liked or something, I'd build my own variation of it.
