smaller indie games on the whole seem to suffer from this thing where, if the game has a cast of characters, nobody will remember any of them because they're all too similar to eachother

I remember Mechwarrior 4 Mercenaries was being given away for free a while back but I don't know if it still is.

Good game to play, hard to find. I still have a copy. I dunno if it's considered abandonware yet, because if it is, I would be able to share it with others who are interested.

hawken is a pretty good one

(entire enemy team is the free rocket/riot shield mech)
(takes a year to unlock a weapon that can do damage)
(Killed by hackers constantly because its basically abandonware since i quit last year)
