And I'm back lol....laptop is broken currently and im on holiday in the US so i cant physically help Planr with our Enterprise until i get it sorted, stay tuned though

Woohoo! Welcome back buddy!

Hey guys. Just want to let you know that this project is not dead or on hold, and I want to share a general status update.

First off I know this project is not getting much attention compared to the plethora of generic architectural builds on the gallery board, and personally I want to say that saddens me a little. This is truly a unique project that I wish more people expressed interest in. If you guys have any ideas as to how we can get this project series more attention in a legit way, please let me know.

That said, it is disappointing to say, but it appears that we clearly aren't going to get more than a handful of votes in the poll for the renaming of Captain C's old ship's class, so I am just going to close it now and conclude.
Out of the 5 votes given, 4 people (including myself) voted for Option 1: The Kane Class.
The new class name for the old USS Enterprise Project will now be the Kane class. Captain C himself may decide whether to keep the ship's old name of USS Exeter or change it to something more continuity-friendly (The Exeter was actually a Constitution class).

As for actual in-game news, there has been a good deal of behind-the-scenes work going on with the various projects. Mostly unseen groundlaying and more renovations, which are extensive but necessary for these builds to work. Basically I have just been doing a lot of utilitarian work on the builds, stuff that isn't really able to be shown, such as filling in empty and unusable cavities inside the ship hulls with large bricks meant for support and protection of bricks and blockheads. It helps reduce lag, strengthen the build against weapons fire, allow for more bricks to be safely supported, and make the builds more believable.

Some upcoming things, very soon.
1) The release of some of the project's music loops; in zipped packs. Download links will be provided in the OP once they are ready. Done
2) More screenshots of renovated areas on the Kane class. Done
3) The revealing of a brand-new and 100% original-design Starfleet ship I am working on. Done

bump

i havent updated this in a while, but there has been some major progress going on with the new ship. itll be unvieled once the exterior is done.

In the meantime, here is some pictures of the design for the Kane class that I was thinking of doing. Basically a TOS Kelvin class variant. Although I am wanting to have two nacelles on the bottom of the saucer rather than just 1.

Well, i never watched Star Trek but i could say i really like these ships, and especially interiors.

Bump

Progress is ongoing with the new ship (the one I won't show yet because it's so cluttered right now), but right now the focus is mainly on making more printpacks, music loops and soundpacks, in preparation for more functioning DL links in OP.

I've done one last go-around with the .pk3 folder for Star Trek Voyager Elite Force, from which a huge amount of content in this project is from. I went through and picked out the remaining sounds and noises in the game to make into music loops and soundpacks, and once that's done, all that's left is printmaking, and then full focus can be on building the ships.

However, I would really love to see about getting some help on the project with having some vehicles. In particular, some TOS Shuttlecraft and Shuttlepods. I'll probably make a suggestion thread about that in a while.

Oh, and while i'm at it, i'll share a sneak-peek at the very WIP new ship, which is the Greyhound-class Escort:

So I went to Planr's sever and the ships are beyond amazing, not only is the build good but it's jam-packed with astounding events. Splendid job, Planr.

Scaling Systems

Scale size I use: 3.25 Studs per Meter

One difficult subject to deal with when making ships like these is the issue of scaling. How do you scale something meant for real life down to something used by a stocky little Blockland player? Blockheads also have different bodily proportions when compared to real people, mainly that they are fatter or shorter, whichever one you choose to believe.

So there are several questions we have to deal with when choosing a scaling system:
  • Do we consider Blockheads to simply be fat, or short?
  • Do we want the system we choose to be based on Metric (easier) or Imperial (harder)?
  • Do we want lengths/distances in the system to be based on the Blockhead's height, or based on something else?
  • How tall is a Blockhead, anyway?

The answers to these questions is a matter of debate. However, I have personally decided to go with the following beliefs/criteria about scaling:
  • Blockheads should simply be considered fat, because it makes more sense if they are considered to be the same height as a person, rather than the same width.
  • The system should be based on Metric.
  • Lengths/distances in the system should be based on the Blockhead's height.
  • A Blockhead is 1.6 Meters tall.

So, now that we've got that decided, here's a logical thought process.
  • A Blockhead is 1.6 Meters tall (Starting presumption)
  • A Blockhead, is 13 Plates tall (Proof)
  • 1.6 meters divided by 13 is 0.1230769230769231 Meters
  • Thus, a Plate is 0.1230769230769231 Meters tall
  • 5 Plates equals a 2x Cube, or 5 platesworth of height
  • 0.1230769230769231 Meters multiplied by 5 equals 0.6153846153846154
  • 5 Plates, or 2 Studs, is 0.6153846153846154 Meters in Length.
  • 0.6153846153846154 Meters (2 Studs) multiplied by 13 equals 8 Meters.
  • 2 Studs x 13 = 26 Studs
  • 8 Meters = 26 Studs
  • 26 Studs divided by 8 Meters equals 3.25
  • 1 Meter thus equals 3.25 Studs when a Blockhead is 1.6 Meters in height.

holy mother of richards these ships are pretty incredible

I've done one last go-around with the .pk3 folder for Star Trek Voyager Elite Force,

speaking of that game (which i love), i always wanted to recreate the weapons from there, especially the phaser and compression rifle.

also your ships are amazing

Thanks! And yes, I would LOVE to see the weapons from Elite Force in Blockland. If you'd be interested in making them, I would be more than happy to supply the sounds for such weapons.

Greyhound class Escort - Alpha Pictures #1

Hey guys, here's a new update on the Greyhound class. I've started a little interior work, starting with the bridge (Necessary because I need to determine the turbolift layout). Remember, the work here is obviously still WIP so if some things seem off or you feel could use some changes, feel free to tell me while I can still appropriately change it. Also remember that some parts obviously aren't done and will be changed to be better in the future.

The ship is designed in the spirit of the Pike era (2250's), so the primary colors inside the build will be lots of greys and blues, with some tan here and there. Complexity wise in appearance, the interior will be of a fairly simple design, although still a little more complex in appearance than the TOS Enterprise (mostly when it comes to the corridors). I want this ship to strike a balance in terms of interior design between the TOS-era Kane class, and the Post-NX era Daedalus class.

Here's some pictures of what I've got so far for the bridge. It's a little cramped, and sadly that's just something that has to be accepted due to the vessel's small size. I don't want to make the bridge superstructure too big, after all (then the ship would look weird/ugly). Also please keep in mind the floor is NOT built yet. Those brown bricks are just placeholders.

This 1st picture reminds me of how the ship's bridge is similar to the Defiant-class bridge.

Building the Captain's chair was fun! There's just enough room for people to walk between the chairs to traverse the bridge.

Me sitting in the Captain's chair

I feel this picture here was cool because it shows the thickness between the interior of the bridge and the outer hull.

This here is a picture of the front of the ship's warp nacelles. This ship is supposed to be from around the PIKE era, so I've taken the liberty of giving it the trademark spikes and darker-colored bussard collectors.

Here's a picture of the ship so far from below. You can see the warp nacelle grilles lit up. I decided the grilles should be split up into sections similar to how I've seen it done on Daedalus-class ships.

Here i'd like to show off the curvature of the ship's aft section, leading towards the shuttlebay opening.

Looking backwards from a view on one of the nacelles. This angle really shows how smoothly the back of the hull is curved.

This shot shows the curvature even better than the last one, in my opinion.

A view of the ship from the side. Here I am standing on its top side for a size comparison. This ship is almost 80 meters in length overall, and will have 4 decks. I'd say it's about the same size as Comr4de's Lucifer-class Frigate.

For some reason this angle just looks really good to me. It shows off the backside's shape well.

Here's two pictures of the Turbolift car that will be used on this ship. Here, my friend Mr. Unicode volunteered to be a model for me and stand inside the car.

The turbocar has 8 studs-wide of circular space on the inside by the way. It can fit up to 3 people, though I recommend only 2 should be in it at a time (with 3, getting out the door can be tricky).

That's all for now!

Space RP when?
RPs will start probably sometime in early 2016 2017 once we have at least one of the ships done. I want to make the RPs as interactive and fun as possible, so I will probably be building large modter planets in the style of Reactor Worker's old v20 Blockland Solar System maps, so that people can go on away missions and such. The planets will hover above the invisible ground in space, being much larger than the ships, and having their own atmopheres that players can travel through, and also their own skies. I'm hoping to find a way so that I can make space somewhat visible from the inside of the planets, but not the outside, by using tricks with brick transparency, but we'll see.

I designed a TOS Space Station turbolift today, just for the fun of it. It's really big on the inside compared to the one I've made for the Greyhound class.

Here's a size comparison between the two turbolifts.
