the sentence you quoted is brown townogous to "he felt no guilt about behaving blasphemously"
just replace the word in your post with any of the synonyms for it. none of them work, and neither does "compunction"
it doesn't mean whatever in god's name you think it does. maybe you're thinking of compulsion?? but even that would be pretty awkward in that sentence. so who frickin knowsdont worry
