I didn't mean all of us are pre-teen.

I'm concerned that if Sesame Street outright says that this "Julia" character has autism, and they show her acting a certain way in the show, it might just reinforce bad stereotypes about autistic kids. It'd be better if they had her just act quirky and simply not mention whether she has some sort of mental disorder or not. If they start putting labels on children's characters it might mislead kids to think that all characters with autism must act like Julia will. Which is not the case because autism manifests itself in a huge variety of ways. No two people with autism are the same.
i dunno how they're going to handle it, but my assumption is that despite the fact that autism manifests in different ways, there are still clear signs of autism. i've known at least 4 people with autism in my life and while they had discernable differences in how far along the spectrum they were, they all shared similar symptoms - acute interests, difficulty interacting socially, etc. the effects are definable.

the real positive is that
Introducing kids to social issues early is how we change our society, I support this.
yeah. introduce someone with autism now in a positive light, and hopefully children, being impressionable, will pick up on that. i doubt it's going to have a huge effect on bullying because kids are generally starfishs, but who knows.

this still exists?

autism?

autism?
excuse me, let me be more specific. "sesame street still exists?" and on a rather serious note, since i do happen to have a form of autism, i should know that autism is still around.

One of the more difficult parts of being a minority (this includes many things, in this case it's disability) is not being related to.
Like a black child that has only seen shows and stories with white characters can feel a disconnect, the same is true here. Introducing these characters is not only a way of getting the general populous to be more understanding, but also showing these kids that they too have a place here and are as much a part of our society as any other.

blf is finally breaking into the mainstream!!!

I think Betelgeuse should be on Sesame Street

I mean it's not like this is a bad idea or anything.

I think Betelgeuse should be on Sesame Street
holy stuff
the only function of that character would be to point at Julia and yell autism 24/7

it'd be better if they didn't actually mention that she has a disorder like every show has done for eternity. Let kids figure it out after they've grown a bit after they learned to accept the character as a child

excuse me, let me be more specific. "sesame street still exists?" and on a rather serious note, since i do happen to have a form of autism, i should know that autism is still around.

"i have aspergers so therefore i'm autism and this proteans to me"

on a serious note, this really isn't that bad of an idea, i like it

I'm curious how they will portray the character...
Probably not on the levels of internet autism :^)
