Author Topic: how do i emulate windows in linux  (Read 5588 times)

well wait what do you mean, of course you need an iso or img file of the OS. the way a VM works is initially you boot it with either a physical disk or USB containing installation media for the OS, or you have a digital iso or img file containing installation media for the OS and you select that in the settings to boot with.

since you don't have a physical disk of win95, you'll need an img file of it. that menu i was just talking about is where you're supposed to navigate to the directory where the img file you have for win95 is
ok i got a img and it boots but it just boots to a command line
this is not the 95 i remember
also how the forget do i get virtual machine to let go of my keyboard and mouse i've had to almost kill my entire OS just to make it stop

okay it wants to install but its saying it needs to format a partition
will this forget up my hard drive if i let it do that or is it contained to its own little area

it will be fine. virtual machines are designed specifically to do this stuff

stufflord i have a copy of windows 98 for vmware and it literally takes 5 seconds to get and install on the vm

it tells you what the host key is, to let it release control of keyboard/mouse input. i think its defined as right control by default

its contained to the .vdi image, so it won't forget up your linux partitions

okay it wants to make a partition and i let it
then it says it needs to restart to take effect
so i restart it
then it says it wants to make a partition and i let it

is it not saving changes or something?

after it restarts, eject the installation image and see if youre still in a loop

"Missing Operating System"

okay windows 98 did the partition okay but again it just boots to a command line

[...] which means, that you must boot from DOS floppy, install DOS first and only then install Windows 95/98

unfortunately, having no experience with installing older versions of windows on a vm i cant help you with that

all of those downloads are in germany and are also 7z files
I don't see any issues here
