Author Topic: Thin gray text on white backgrounds.  (Read 815 times)

(from the calendar program)

This is total ass. Companies stop making your GUIs so loving LIGHT and your fonts so GODDAMN THIN. Thankfully I have the knowledge on how to convert half the programs and websites I use to have a dark interface. My complaints aren't even petty considering this design is unreadable to anyone with poor eyesight, which I'm guessing is a pretty huge percentage of the people of Earth. Who even thought that thin light-gray font on a blinding white background was a good idea? I'm not going to sleep well until every GUI in existence has a background that is 50% gray or darker.

tl;dr: designers with their heads up their asses shouldn't be, um, designing things for accessibility.

I can read it just fine :v

Maybe you're used to it but every minute I spend looking at the default google results page is like staring into the sun.

its readable but the contrast between the shades is annoying as forget

I came across this just now. This is a font and color they chose for paragraphs. Why?

I fixed it by going into inspect-element and unchecking two boxes. I can actually read it without straining. Wow.

Uh-huh.  Sure.

Because if you have trouble reading it, everyone else must, and therefore it's an error on the developer's side, therefore the developer must change their systems to fit your preferences.  Let alone, 50% or darker is a small margin as far as design goes, and actually limits to far more than that.  Sounds like THE definition of petty.  If you don't like this calendar app, perhaps investigate other apps and see if their aesthetic is more suited to you.

I really do hope you're joking.

It's Squideey. It's possible he's just bored.

I'm not surprised from the backlash since this seems to be the current popular trend.

You seem to be getting into a trend of lashing out against random things and portraying them as some grand injustice against society. It makes you look silly imo.

I really don't like the light gray text on white background thing either, it hurts my eyes to read and it seems kind of Myspace profile-y to choose colors that contrast so poorly.

Looks fine to me. It might strain your eyes, but to some, it looks... good?
Idk

I can read the text, But that is because I'm looking at the resized version of it on my computer.
I'm sure if I was using my phone it would be total aids trying to read it.

I admit, The thin grey text is horrible.

It doesn't bother me too much, and I even get some of the "clean" aesthetic they're going for, but then, I've been habitually staring at screens for over a decade. I'm fairly certain I would prefer darker interfaces if and only if it could be consistent and colorful (dark colors are nice, but to me, 50% gray is somehow even more boring than white) (looking at a bunch of white is bad enough, but switching from a dark, comfortable page to a completely white one is a truly terrible experience)
