Author Topic: If a person is born in international waters, what will their nationality be?  (Read 1463 times)

what happens if I make my own boat in international waters than give birth

or what if i'm not even in a boat/plane

If you're in the middle of the loving ocean without any kind of raft or plane and you're giving birth, I think you have bigger issues than the kid's nationality.

Just eat the kid, kill two birds with one baby.

"Under the 1961 Convention on the Reduction of Statelessness, for the purposes of determining the obligations under the Convention, a birth on a ship or aircraft in international waters or airspace shall be treated as a birth in the country of the ship or aircraft's registration."

my assumption would've been citizenship is determined by jus sanguinis in the case you're in international waters but i guess this makes sense too
