Should Physics be fixed?

yes
no

Author Topic: A movement to fix blockland vehicle physics  (Read 2356 times)

Unfortunatley badspot has stated in the past he has 0 inclination to fix the vehicle physics, and actually prefers them to be broken.
where? i know on a stream rotondo said they've tried to fix it in the past and determined that it would require some kind of intense netcode rewrite or something and gave up, but i never heard anyone say they prefer them broken

in any case if it were done in a dll i imagine it's more attainable than previously thought

I discussed several aspects of future development with him on his server once. We talked about vehicle physics and the 8 visible lights maximum and he made it clear that he plans to do nothing with either.

Wasn't that chrisbot guy working on this?

I disagree. We removed maps and terrain (the only thing vehicles reliably work on) because they made the game "look broken". Right now the only thing making the game "look broken" is the vehicle physics. If someone can do it with a hamfisted DLL injector, Badspot could probably do it easily. It's extraordinarily frustrating trying to make complex driving mechanics and maps that involve vehicles when they get stuck on every corner they come across.

I was half joking to be honest. If the glitches get fixed, I'd say it's a good thing, but while it's still here, it is a funny "feature".

If it's an engine issue, I'd understand. But other people have fixed it so maybe it's just the way it's implemented.

I don't know. I'm no expert. I'll keep my mouth shut.

I don't understand why anyone would want it to remain the way it is.

If the vehicle physics get fixed, there should still be a server preference called something like "Silly Physics" that makes the server use the current vehicle physics.

This

it didn't act at all like blhack what are you talking about
.dlls have been released before and the authors weren't banned for posting them
you forgot
they HAVE to release the source alongside it

Initially I thought the physics were entertaining and I liked it, but after trying to develop gamemodes and things reliant on or include physics vehicles they're really disappointing.

Does Chrisbot's fix actually alter how physics work or does it just budge vehicles out of bricks?

When did he say he prefers broken physics though?
I have seen this said a few times now with no proof.

I don't think a lack of inclination to fix it means he prefers its current state.

considering it's an injected dll, most likely the former. There's no reason to do the latter via dll, that could be done with script

No, he said he actually preferred it for the 'comedic effect'

I like Blockland physics. It being broken makes it less likely to criticize Blockland for not being "realistic enough" or something, like a bunch of people on Minecraft or other games.
Also it's just plain fun.
Have you tried skiing on modter?

Something needs to be done, that's all i know. Being flung around speedkart is fun the first time but when people pile on each other race after race, it get's annoying. Everything in that .dll can be fashioned into a suitable script. Badspot has clearly lost loving interest and if we wan't something new or innovative, then we, as a community, need to step up and take charge. Who cares if he "prefers them to be broken".

"Hey Tom, your headlights are out, you going to get those fixed?"
"Nahh Ted, they look funny broken. I think i'll keep them that way."
"You sure that's the best of ideas?"
"Heehahahuhah.......No....."

Try being loving open minded once. I didn't quit because maps went bye, i put on the big boy pants and said "okay, let's give it a try". And you know what? I absolutely hate it! But that doesn't change stuff! And i don't care, because it's still a game i love playing. And it's not dying anytime soon. Unless it changes. Fix the stuff.

Uhh
No, it can't.
