if you already know how to model it'll take you like 30 minutes to learn to use 3DS Max. idk about Maya but it should be the same or easier

the only thing id suggest is consistency with the speed. it could just be a gif glitch or something, but it looks like he kind of jolts up a little quick there by the flowerbed

iirc in earthbound you do walk faster when you go diagonal
