i was telling him off

You don't discourage anyone for building. If it's one thing I hate it's people telling others to go forget themselves if they need help to build. Not everyone shares the same skills others have.

A good way for people to practice is to watch someone build themselves. Most people can't simply get better by "practicing"

show him a timelapse of you building.

You're not going to learn anything from a time lapse. You need to be there in person showing him ways of building.

I've seen a lot of other players act similar, so I don't really have a problem with him compared to others.
He should stop bragging though,

In-game he is pretty cool.

I smell 20 - 50 pages

Arrogance isnt a bad thing at all
You can be arrogant, but keep it to yourself. Don't go around saying you and your friends are, "the last real builders in Blockland".

according to ike's definition
being arrogant pretty much means you have an inflated or exaggerated sense of self-importance
i'm like, the polar opposite of it
