a social construct? you mean identifying differences in people that come from different places and have different genes?
The genetic differences aren't the social construct part. The social construct part is where we draw the lines in those gradients of genetic differences and fence off who's white, asian, etc. That's why race is an invented concept.
I'm not saying that it's not a useful distinction for describing large groups of people with similar ethnic histories, but it's definitely something humanity has invented for itself.
